Manager, Architecture and Standards, Justice Canada  1991 – 1993

Seconded from the Private Sector for a two year Strategic Planning role, I modernised the IT function and created a Department-wide Enterprise Architecture

  • Direct reports: 10; Annual budgetary responsibility: £7mn+
  • Key in selling solutions to internal clients, fostering internal & external partnerships
  • Created 10-year “E-Justice” vision & related 5-year plan
  • Departmental representative to Federal Government CIO & CTO Committees
  • Wrote the technology, architecture and communications portions of the Departmental Treasury Board submission, including migration strategies and cost projections
  • Defined and updated departmental technology and communications standards
  • Provided technical consulting for all projects defined in the Strategic Plan
  • Provided Data Management and EDP Security functions
  • Managed line responsibility for thirteen employees and several consultants
  • Analysed Departmental electronic mail facility and provided recommendations and options, including a migration plan, for the implementation of a new messaging system
  • Acted as technical representative to the Infrastructure Standardisation Initiative which was tasked with implementing a standard desktop workstation (hardware and software) for the 2500 person department
  • Represented the Department on several Treasury Board committees, including OSI Implementation and POSIX advisory
